Dr. Cathryn Sayer grew up in Boulder, Colorado. She knew from a young age that she had a passion for helping animals and a love of science, which lead her to become a veterinarian. She obtained a B.S. in Zoology at the University of Washington in Seattle, and then attended Washington State University (go Cougs!) for her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2009.
Dr. Sayer began working at Animal Health Care Specialists in 2014, and learned as much as she could from Dr. Schulman until he retired and she took over the practice. Dr. Sayer loves what she does and is very grateful to be able to help animals and their loving pet parents every day. She is also grateful to have the best veterinary staff in Denver.
Dr. MacKenzie Kohler was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences &Technology from Louisiana State University in 2014. During her time at LSU she cared for various exotic animals at the university’s vet school. She also worked in small animal general practice as a veterinary assistant before pursuing her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. Dr. Kohler graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2019. She is passionate about providing standard
of care services in a way that nurtures and promotes emotional well-being and reduces fear and anxiety in our pets.
Dr. Kohler is an avid reader and is committed to lifelong learning. In her free time, she loves to travel, foster kittens, and spend time with friends and family. While she does not have a pet at the moment, she loves and misses her family’s five dogs and three cats very much! She hopes to one day have a farm here in Colorado.
Janet is the Practice Manager with Animal Health Care Denver. She earned her bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of Phoenix and entered the veterinary field just over a year ago after a 20+ year career in human healthcare. She made the transition to combine her passion for healthcare and for animals. Janet’s heart belongs to her Mastiff-mix, Tulip. She also lives with two cats, Muffin and Tuffy. She enjoys hiking, listening to Podcasts, and reading.
Jennifer is a Veterinary Technician with Animal Health Care Denver. As a Colorado native, she earned her associate degree in veterinary technology from Bel-Rea Institute and has worked in the field for 11 years. Although she is an experienced vet tech, Jennifer enjoys learning something new every day and helping the four-legged community members. Her favorite services are surgery and radiology. Her family has three rescue dogs, Nellie, Athena, and Carleigh. Jennifer also has a special place in her heart for horses. Jennifer, her husband, and daughter enjoy four wheeling, camping, and enjoying the beauty of Colorado.
Diamond is a Veterinary Technician at Animal Health Care Denver who graduated from Pima Medical Institute with her Associates of Applied Science. She has worked in the veterinary field for five years and loves all aspects of her job, especially helping the patients and seeing their progress. Diamond also works for Canine Blood Heroes, helping collect donated blood which is much needed! At home, her family includes a Yazy, a German Shepherd mix, Eboni, a Labrador mix, and two birds.
Adriana is a Veterinary Technician with Animal Health Care Denver. She attended veterinary school in Mexico, is bilingual in Spanish and English and has worked in the field for 9 years. She is passionate about helping animals and educating people on how to best care for their four-legged friends. Adriana is the proud dog mom of Walley, Argo, Jayla, and Jet, as well as three sugar gliders, Suki, Ally, and Tuka. Although she loves all dogs, Dobermans and Chihuahuas hold a special place in her heart.
Michelle is a Veterinary Assistant with Animal Health Care Denver. She worked as a certified pharmacy technician before transitioning to veterinary medicine after earning her veterinary assistant certification a year ago. She is scheduled to graduate in June with her associate degree in animal science and plans to continue her education to become a certified veterinary technician. Michelle enjoys educating people about animal behaviors and how best to care for specific dog breeds, large animals, and reptiles. She shares her home with two dogs and five snakes that include two red tail boa constrictors, two bull snakes and a reticulated python. Michelle is engaged to be married September 2021.
Eva is a Veterinary Assistant with Animal Health Care Denver. She graduated with her Veterinary Assistant certificate from Pima Medical Institute and has worked in the field for three years. Eva enjoys the technical functions of her job, such as blood draws which she performs often for Canine Blood Heroes, as well as working with parvo puppies. Eva has two hamsters, Coffee and Bean, three cats, Oreo, Brownie, and Tiny and a dog named Rosie. Some of her favorite hobbies are fishing, being in the mountains, and going to the Colorado Gator Farm.
Samantha is a Veterinary Assistant with Animal Health Care Denver. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and has worked in the veterinary field for 2 years. The reward for Samantha is helping patients recover from an illness or injury and watching their progress as they get better. She has a soft spot for parvo puppies. She also works with Canine Blood Heroes to collect much needed blood donations. She lives with her dog, Scout. Samantha enjoys playing volleyball and hiking.
Lee is a Veterinary Assistant at Animal Health Care Denver who graduated the Veterinary Assistant Program at Prima Medical Institute. Lee has worked in the veterinary field for 12 years. She is the president of Friends of Retired Greyhounds and has helped rescue 102 Galgos (Spanish Greyhounds) from deplorable conditions in Spain to forever homes in the United States. Lee’s passion for Greyhounds doesn’t stop with her volunteer work, she lives with Rocket and Orbit, both retired racing Greyhounds and Chandler, a Galgo rescued from Spain.
Stephanie’s primary role at Animal Health Care Denver is receptionist but she has the versatility to also help as a veterinary assistant. She has been in the veterinary field for about 10 years. The most rewarding aspect of the work for Stephanie is helping families through an unexpected medical event that happens to their furry loved ones by providing education, helping navigate emotional decisions, and giving comfort. She feels it is the duty of humans to care for animals that can’t advocate for themselves. As a native to Colorado, Stephanie enjoys exploring the outdoors with her family and experiencing all that life in this beautiful state has to offer.
Yakelin is a Veterinary Assistant with Animal Health Care Denver. She graduated with her Veterinary Assistant certificate from Pima Medical Institute in Denver. Although Yakelin is new to veterinary care, with about a year of experience, she is driven by wanting to help animals, and would like to work with large animals such as horses in the future. Having been raised in Mexico, Yakelin is bilingual in Spanish and English. She lives with a puppy poodle mix, Tuzi. Yakelin enjoys playing sports and being in the outdoors.
Judy is a Receptionist with Animal Health Care Denver. She has worked in the veterinary field for 21 years, working with shelter animals for 6 of those years helping to find homes for lost or unwanted pets. Judy enjoys establishing relationships with the clients, as well as the patients. She lives with a pug named Kiwi who is a firecracker! Kiwi keeps Judy company while walking, gardening and just being outdoors.
